FAQs
What is The Soba Golf Fall Classic?
The Soba Golf Fall Classic is a community-focused, alcohol- and substance-free golf outing celebrating golf's traditions while building new ones around recovery, wellness, and connection. Expect a fun, low-stakes day of golf with a vintage-inspired twist.
Do I have to be sober to participate?
No. While sobriety and recovery are an important part of the Soba Golf community, you do not have to identify as sober to participate. We welcome those in recovery, sober-curious golfers, allies and supporters, and anyone interested in enjoying golf in an alcohol- and substance-free environment. However, we absolutely do not tolerate any alcohol or substance-use at any of our events. You will be asked to leave if you do not follow these guidelines.
Is alcohol allowed at the event?
No. This is a completely alcohol- and substance-free event. We ask everyone attending to respect that environment for the entirety of the event.
What skill level do I need to participate?
All skill levels are welcome! Whether you're a scratch golfer, play a few times a year, or are relatively new to the game, we'd love to have you. The scramble format is intentionally designed to keep things fun, social, and approachable for everyone.
What is the format?
The event will be played as a 4-person scramble. Each player hits a shot, the group selects the best one, and everyone plays their next shot from that location. We'll repeat that process until the ball is holed. The emphasis is on having fun and contributing as a team rather than individual scores.
Do I need to register with a foursome?
No. Individual registrations are encouraged! You'll have an opportunity to request people you'd like to play with, and we'll build groups from there while doing our best to create balanced and welcoming foursomes.
What's included with my $135 registration?
Registration includes 18 holes at Overland Park Golf Course, cart, range balls, lunch, a player swag bag, and participation in the day's contests and prizes.
What's with the vintage theme?
Overland Park has a long connection to Denver golf history, including serving as the original home of the Denver Country Club, and being known as the oldest running golf course west of the Mississippi River. The Fall Classic celebrates that history by taking inspiration from different eras of the game—from the clothing and equipment to some of the contests and prizes.
Do I have to dress in vintage golf attire?
Absolutely not—but we hope you'll have some fun with it! Vintage and throwback golf attire from any era is encouraged, whether that's plus-fours and a flat cap, an old-school sweater, a '70s/'80s golf look, or something straight out of the '90s. Come as dressed-up—or as normal—as you'd like.
Will there be contests and prizes?
Yes. In addition to the scramble, we'll have several low-stakes contests and prizes throughout the day, including some with a vintage twist. You might even have to trade your modern equipment for something considerably older for a shot or two.
Can I participate if I don't know anyone?
Please do. One of the main reasons Soba Golf exists is to create opportunities for people to meet and connect through golf. You don't need a group, and you definitely don't need to know anyone beforehand.
What is Soba Golf?
Soba Golf is a wellness golf community at the intersection of sobriety, sober curiosity, and intentional living. We're building opportunities for people to connect through golf without alcohol or substances being part of the experience.
Can friends or family who aren't sober join me?
Absolutely. Allies and supporters are welcome. The only requirement is respecting the alcohol- and substance-free environment.
Is this a competitive tournament?
Not really. We'll keep score, have contests, give out prizes, and probably recognize the winning team—but this is a community event first and a competition second. Come ready to play some golf, meet some people, and have a good time.
Are sponsorship or partnership opportunities available?
Yes! We're looking for businesses and organizations interested in supporting the event through paid sponsorships, prizes, swag, products, services, or other contributions. Contact coloradosobagolf@gmail.com to learn more about partnership opportunities.
