Scrambles look simple on the scorecard. For the organizer, they can be anything but simple. You have teams, team names, captains, individual golfers, pairing requests, payments, sponsors, scorecards, handicaps, and prizes.

Team registration vs individual registration
Decide this before opening registration. If the captain is responsible for the entire foursome, team registration may be easiest. If every golfer needs to pay separately, individual registrations can work better. An admin can then organize those individual registrations into teams.
Team names
Team names make scrambles more fun and make the leaderboard easier to follow. Collect the team name during the appropriate registration flow or let admins assign it during setup.
Filling incomplete teams
Not every foursome arrives fully formed. Some events have individuals who want to play but need teammates. Keeping all players inside one event database makes it easier for admins to organize incomplete teams.
Live team scoring
Scramble scoring is perfect for a live leaderboard because only 1 team score is needed on each hole. A designated scorer can enter the team’s result and the leaderboard updates.
Handicaps
If you plan to use handicaps in a scramble, publish the method before registration closes. Different tournaments use different formulas. Clarity matters more than trying to invent rules on event day.
Rules
Publish your scramble rules with the event. Clarify things such as required drives, ball placement, putting rules, maximum scores, handicap method, and tie breakers. When everyone sees the rules before playing, there is far less arguing later.
